Montage in Review

Montage performs the dance “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from the Lion King.

Air Academy students pull off one of the funniest Montage shows ever. With amusing skits and entertaining performances, audience members state that “they really enjoyed the show.” Montage is a variety show put on by AAHS at the beginning of each year. It includes singing, dancing, and acting. Read further to get a look behind the scenes about what went into Montage, and how the participants and audience felt about it.

We asked students how they enjoyed the show. Kimmie Stattman, a junior, said, “I really enjoyed the show. I liked a lot of the skits.  I would definitely like to see it again next year.” Carys Jacobs, also a junior, stated, “I liked the show, it was very good. I really liked the theme of it [Montage backwards: Egatnom] and how the projector was used to display funny videos. Also, I liked how the people in the show were very outgoing, energetic, and looked like they were having fun. I especially enjoyed the musical numbers. It made me want to see it again or perhaps maybe even be in it next year.” Angelina Caranza, a senior said, “I really enjoyed Montage. I loved how everything related back to the theme. It was just an overall nice performance and was very entertaining.”

So, how does Montage work? Emily Wion, a senior and director of the show this year explained, “Everyone shows up for auditions and gets in whether they are talented or not, and then we spend about a month ‘rehearsing’ (which is really us goofing off and not doing our work). Then, somehow, on opening night a show is put on that the audience loves. No one knows how or why it always works out, but I guess ‘the Kadet gods’ love Montage!” Additionally, she stated, “I think it went really well and it came together to be a really awesome show. My favorite part was the guys’ ‘twerking’ dance, to the song ‘Gas Pedal’, which was very funny.”

Another senior, Courtney Westerfield, said, “I definitely think the show went well. I think we were more unified this year because we had a shorter amount of time, so it made us have to jump into things quicker. My favorite part was coming up with ideas for skits because there were endless possibilities.” To those who may be interested in joining Montage in the future, she said, “I would definitely say do it. It helped me integrate into school as a new student last year, and it gave me a place to fit in.”

Finally, Cullan Diffee, a junior and director this year, stated, “I thought the performance went really well. I think it came together nicely in the end and the audience enjoyed it. My favorite parts were the songs that everyone is in, or the ‘Mass Tunes’.” As a final statement he said, “Montage is a really great way to get involved, meet people, and have a lot of fun with your friends.”

Multiple elements are included into Montage annually to create an entertaining and hilarious show. Both audience members and actors felt that, after the show’s completion, there were only good things to be said about it.  Therefore, students, staff, and parents should definitely all go see the show next year. It’ll be an experience you’ll never forget!
