Senior Breakfast Spearheads through Final Stages of Planning

What is Senior Breakfast and what does the graduating class of 2024 have to look forward to this event before graduation?

Air Academy High School is looking forward to the distinguished event known as Senior Breakfast. At this brunch themed event teachers, students, and families gather together to celebrate the graduating seniors of Air Academy. This year’s 2024 event is taking place at Antlers Hotel at approximately 8:00-11:00 am.

The honorary event has one main spectacle and that is the ceremony of capping select seniors. Seniors here at Air Academy have the opportunity of choosing to participate in this event or simply showing up to hang out with friends and family.

“I know the first year that I went for my sister it was a long, but honorable ceremony. Many seniors were crying and the speeches they have for their cappers were very admiring,” senior Trey Nohrenberg stated.

Each senior has the option of choosing their own person who can put a graduation cap on them. Along with this the senior can write down a little speech in honor of that person and why they chose them.

“For my sister’s senior breakfast she chose our dad, not only because he was her lacrosse coach but also because he was such a big inspiration for her growing up,” senior Avery Wallace stated talking about her sister Kayla Wallace’s Senior Breakfast.

While there are an abundant amount of seniors who have had past siblings here at Air Academy attend their very own Senior Breakfast, there are still many seniors who are the first to attend a Senior Breakfast out of their whole family.

“I know some of the logistics of what the ceremony is, but I have no clue on where the tradition started for Air Academy,” freshman Madison Givens stated.

However, most do not know when exactly the tradition of Senior Breakfast started for Air Academy or how it came about. It is a tradition that many District 20 schools partake in when it comes to honoring seniors.

“I think the tradition of honoring seniors is amazing for Air Academy. Especially since I know a bunch of seniors enjoy getting ready and participating in the event,” sophomore Holly Miquelon said excitedly.

There are always ups and downs to any event, but many seniors have heard circulating rumors about some of the things that may happen during the event.

“I heard the food is not the greatest and the event is super long for seniors because of all the caping’s that takes place during it,” senior Ava Smith stated.

There are also some upset seniors about the price of the event and the limitations on inviting certain people to Senior Breakfast.

“I had to pay about $125 because I have a big family and that is not even half of my family for the event. I especially think charging the student to attend is ridiculous because we’re the main event for the breakfast,” senior Tatum Salamon stated.

Whatever the opinion may be on Senior Breakfast the brunch is widely known across the senior class for having a festive, joyous, and respected repertoire. Many seniors especially look forward to this event not only because they get to hang out with friends and family but also because they get to honor somebody special to them who has made an impact on their whole high school career. Let’s hope this year’s Senior Breakfast tops all other Air Academy high School Senior Breakfasts!
