The Art Department is spicing up Halloween with this year’s unique costumes! Since 2000, the Art Department has taken part in various costume ideas. Mrs. Boyd, the Ceramics teacher, gave us information in our recent interview. When asked how the Art Department finds their theme each year she said, “Creative problem solving is what it is.” With a new idea every year, this tradition has given the Art Department some noticeable Halloween spirit.

New costume ideas are chosen every year by one of the art teachers. The Art Department in recent years has included outside faculty or administration to join in this tradition. They make their own costumes every year. Mrs. Boyd said, “We plan usually right at the beginning of school and start narrowing down the ideas on October first.” The costumes are made a week in advance using materials found at Jonny O’s house.

While they won’t give out hints, they are saying this year’s costumes will be extremely hard to pull off. They have reached a wide range of ideas, from the rock band KISS to the paintings of Van Gogh. We asked Mr. Buhler if he was excited and he said, “Very much so. If it works out the way we want it to, it’s going to be amazing.”

Classic Halloween tradition does not only pertain to costumes. Fun crafts and pumpkins carvings also liven up the holiday spirit. Mrs. Boyd happens to know how to carve pumpkins. If you wish to do a detailed pumpkin carving, Mrs. Boyd says that your cuts will be the most precise if you can get the newest saws and tools. Printing out some designs that you’d want on your pumpkin is another helpful technique.

Here are some fun ideas to make your Halloween day fun with cute crafts.
