No Place For Hate

No Place For Hate is a new club at Air Academy that has been encouraging the acceptance of diversity within the school. The mission statement from the Denver No Place For Hate website reads “Unveiled in 2008, our No Place for Hate® program was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony among diverse groups by empowering them to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry.”
The school has started having meetings, assemblies and events, and it has really started to improve aura around Air Academy. Junior Nicole De La Fuente says, “I really like how diversity has grown to be accepted throughout our school instead of it being negatively viewed upon. Our world needs a lot of love and I’m so glad that the student body is beginning to spread that!” The energy at Air Academy high school has really started to lighten with the help of this new club. About a month ago, No Place For Hate hosted a “switch it up at lunch day” where students were encouraged to sit with a new group of friends, or maybe someone they didn’t know at lunch. I saw many new friendships formed, some of which being ones that I made, and it feels nice to be able to wave at some new smiling faces in the hall.
“I’m so thankful that our school has come up with a club that works towards make everyone feel comfortable,” says Air Academy Junior, Ava Johnson. It’s nice to see the accepting attitude that is now filtering through our halls!!
