New Hotel Makes a Splash in the Springs

Colorado Springs might have an indoor water park in its future. The well known empty lot east of I-25 off Interquest has been an eye sore for nearly six years after its developer ran out of money to finish building it. Recently, a company called Great Wolf bought the 10 story hotel for $18 million dollars, according to documented files in the El Paso county clerk and recorder’s office.
Being a land locked state, its hard to find any fun water activities in CO. Great Wolf plans to resolve this matter, while also bringing in more tourists to Colorado Springs. This company has a great reputation for running indoor water parks. With a dozen parks already in the U.S. and Canada, it prides itself in being “North America’s largest family of indoor water parks and resorts.” In February, Great Wolf representatives submitted a proposal to city planners that showed that the company would complete the vacant Renaissance hotel with 311 rooms, while also constructing an adjacent indoor water park. The water park would take the place of a conference center initially planned for the hotel.

The hotel and park will be called the Great Wolf Lodge at Interquest Market Place. As a 65,000-square-foot indoor water park, this will be the largest one in Colorado, according to Great Wolf. The only catch that some are concerned about is that you must stay in the hotel in order to go to the indoor water park. The rooms average from $300-$500 and up, but this seems like a reasonable price considering you are paying for entry into the park as well as a place to stay.
Not only will this indoor water park include amazing slides and water rides, but it will also include and arcade area, miniature golf, mini-bowling, a rope-climbing attraction, a spa, and other amenities for kids. This makes it the perfect family staycation for local ‘Springs inhabitants. Kadets that I spoke with had not even heard of the new addition, but are highly anticipating it now. Sophomore, Marlee Welding, comments, “I’m really excited for the indoor water park to come to the Springs. I think it will be really fun to hang out there with my friends and family. Also, I’ll enjoy being able to go to a water park even in the colder months.” Personally, I am upset because I will be in college by the time this awesome park arrives. It would have been the most fun birthday party to have in middle school.
The indoor water park will be coming to Colorado Springs in late 2016, and it will surely be a great addition to our already amazing city.
