After Disney’s move to buy Lucasfilms and the rights to Star Wars for $4 billion, they have been making all the right moves to capitalize on the purchase. From video games to a new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens  (due to be out on December 18th) Disney is maximizing their profits.

The biggest addition to the Star Wars family tree comes in the form of the new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As of December 1st, the movie had already sold over $50 million worth of tickets, all 17 days before the movie had even been released. Experts are predicting that the movie will make $170 million just in the opening weekend. There has been plenty of hype about the movie, as there have been several trailers released during prime-time football games, when millions of people are watching. Disney has also miraculously kept the details of the plot a secret to this point, which is leading to fans speculating about the movie, and in turn creating even more of a need for the public to find out. When asked about the new movie, Grant Butler said, “I bought tickets as soon as they went up for sale. I could not be more excited for the new movie.”

Another key move by Disney was the revival of the Star Wars: Battlefront video game franchise. Disney partnered with Electronic Arts in the making of Star Wars: Battlefront. Electronic Arts is predicting 13 million copies to be sold. At $60 a piece, that is a pretty penny for Disney. Star Wars: Battlefront was released November 17, 2015. When speaking of the game, Star Wars fan Henry Yocum stated, “the game was a great move by Disney. It is a very fun game, and brings back all the good memories of playing the previous editions so long ago. More than anything else, the game gets me really pumped for the new movie.”

While all of the new additions to the Star Wars family are making their own money, they have also given a new life (or A New Hope) to the original franchise. In anticipation for the new movie, sales of the first six films have enjoyed above average numbers. Star Wars themed costumes ranked among the most popular this Halloween. In every aspect of the franchise, Disney is making all the right moves to make the most out of their prolific purchase.
