Air Academy Basketball Round Up
Boy’s Basketball-
One win. We got one W this year for the boy’s basketball team at Air Academy High School (1 and 20 overall record to be exact). We lost against every other team we faced this year except for one game against Mitchell High School. It’s okay, though, we are fine, and here’s why:
- We are part of the most competitive league in the state. PPAC league for boy’s basketball pumps out some of the fiercest competition in the entire state of Colorado. A team’s ranking is dependent on the strength of their schedule as well as their record. To give you an idea, we were ranked 53rd in the state despite having lost almost every game, and the top 34 make it to playoffs.
- We were a fairly young team. Only two seniors were on the varsity roster this year. The rest was comprised of seven juniors, three sophomores, and a freshman.
- We honestly had a blast. This season, though defeating in many ways, was fun. Many bus rides down to Pueblo were filled with laughter and optimism. The sense of comradery was outstanding as no player was selfish or hated any other member of the team. We never gave up the fight. No matter the deficit on the scoreboard, we never gave up and quit working. We always pushed until the end. Needless to say, we were a family, and that bond will not soon be forgotten. #wesomedawgs #fortheboys

Girls Basketball-
Unlike the boy’s Varsity team the girls had a more successful season (19-4). As playoffs begin, our team is looking strong and we have high hopes for the postseason. To recap the regular season the team’s only losses were to Lewis-Palmer, Falcon, and Pueblo South. It’s okay, though, we are doing great, and here’s why:
- The AAHS girls varsity program has been strong for a long time, winning state in 2012 and making it to playoffs every year since. Last year, the team was very close to a state title but lost before making it to finals. With no graduating players, the team is very eager to redeem themselves in this postseason.
- Our team is full of multi-sport athletes, great team players, and a range of ages from freshmen to seniors. A standout baller, senior, team leader, multi-sport athlete, and a great student is Katelin Gallegos. As a previous Athlete Of The Month, we already know the stats and great leadership that Katelin brings to this team. Brooke Sulski and Katelin Gallegos, the senior team captains, have done so much to keep the team working together and making sure everyone knows their role as a teammate.
- As a huge fan of this team, this regular season has been a blast watching the girls dominate not only the league games but the out of league games as well. As the postseason begins, we wish the best of luck to our Lady Kadets in their ride to the championship.
