Air Academy Renovations
“Our goal when we started this process was to ensure our students have the same opportunities as the rest of the students in the district. Even though we have the oldest building in the district, our goal is to have a first class facility because we have the best kids in the district and our students deserve the best.” – Mr. Olsen
The school we have all come to love through our many exciting years here will be getting a makeover this summer. That’s right, you read it correctly, Air Academy High School will be getting several renovations over the 2017 summer that will alter your fond memories from within its halls. This is all because of the approved funds that the district received from the taxpayers; the taxpayers approved a 230 million dollar fund to improve our school and many others within the district.
The other building and schools involved are Rampart, Discovery Canon, and the “School in the Woods” who will be getting renovations and new rooms to expand their size, but the good will does not end there. Two more elementary schools will be being built along with one more middle school, giving kids and parents more options when they are deciding where to place their kids. There will also be another building built for the online school program and the new opportunities program called the “Innovation and Learning Houses Program.” However, I know what you all came here for: you want to know what is happening to our school.
B Building
B Building will be being completely remade into a modern masterpiece. The construction has a budget of 5 million dollars to complete the project over the summer. The building will be gutted and re-mastered with a new idea in mind that catapults it into the 21st century.
The Big Gym
All basketball and volleyball players feel free to finally let out a sigh in relief; the main gym’s floor is finally being redone. The floor will be stripped and then replaced with new wooden planks; then, to top it all off, it will be refinished, making it smooth and allowing our feet to blissfully stick to it once again. On the down side, no more ice skating in our socks after a hard practice.
The Bathrooms
The bathrooms will be being fixed and redone.
Water Fountains
Every manual water fountain will be replaced with one of the filtering automatic ones. Meaning no more trying to tilt your water bottle to the perfect angle that leaves you with a half full water bottle.
The Flooring
The old flooring in A building will be getting replaced this summer, as well.
The Library
The library will be getting completely refinished complete with charging stations, movable furniture, and collaborative work spots to bring it into the 21st century, just as B building.
The K-dome
The K-dome will be made wheel chair accessible. The bathrooms and team rooms will be redone to make them more welcoming and to help with the up keep.
The Wireless and Electric
The school wireless and electric will be upgraded to allow a great capacity for students both on and off the internet. And will hopefully help with power surges and blackouts.
Roof
A new roof for the school, need I say more.
Audio and visual
All of the audio and visual aspects of the auditorium will be upgraded and redone.
StuCo
The old StuCo room will be made into a student coffee shop for our enjoyment next year.
What a list! May I be the first to say that I was not expecting it to be as long as it is. I am very excited to see each of these improvements next year. I would definitely agree with Mr. Olsen; Air Academy is home to the best students, and we deserve the opportunities that other schools may give their students!
