The fall sports are in full force with already pleasing results from our Kadets. This fall season has welcomed seven sports: volleyball, boy’s soccer, softball, boy’s tennis, football, boy’s golf, and cross-country. Due to the exceptionally warm weather and many sunny days, practices have largely gone undisturbed by the elements. The Kadets are off to a strong start and every team is working hard to represent Air Academy.

The volleyball team defeated both Pine Creek and Sand Creek after getting off to a bumpy start.  Now their team chemistry is clicking as they are 2-0 in the PPAC league. Lauren Petty, a senior, said,  “Our season is great! We will continue to grow as a team to be successful for the rest of the season!” The girls have high hopes for state and are determined to make it far in the playoffs.

Last year’s state winning boys soccer team graduated nine seniors. However, they are working hard to withhold their highly acclaimed reputation. Although they don’t have a perfect record like last year’s team, they are 2-0 in their conference and are strong contenders for conference champions. Their main goal is to “keep focused and to keep winning games,” according to senior Mark Beatty.

The softball team is doing well right off the bat, with an impressive eleven wins, and a league record of 4-0. Last season, the girls made the first round of the playoffs. This year, junior Payton Romines has aspirations for the team to win a state title.

The boy’s tennis team is racking up wins this year, and have many committed  players. They have had eight wins.

The Air Academy football team kicked off their season with wins over Cheyenne Mountain, Sand Creek, and Widefield, doing better than most fans expected. The season has already surpassed last years win record, and the team is hungry for more.

The girls cross country team has a shot to run away with a state title. Leading the way is Katie Rainsberger who is the number one ranked runner in the nation. The girls placed first in the Cheyenne Stampede Pre-State meet, and second against a highly competitive field at Desert Twilight in Arizona. The boys team is aspiring to make state, which they have done for the past few years. Luc Hagen has had an outstanding season with many top finishes, and recently broke the school’s 5k record, running a 15:16 in Arizona.

The boy’s golf team is led by Isaiah Amparan who has qualified for State tournament. They all have a driving ambition to improve their skills.

Good luck to all the athletes. Go Kadets!
