The Air Academy Theater Department has been flexing its creative acting muscles all Spring Semester and now that we’ve had the pleasure to sit back, relax, and watch the show, it’s time to report on all the accomplishments and outstanding productions.

Earlier this semester, they produced a very funny and talent-filled version of Cinderella. Ashley Heinrich was the beautiful and enchanting Cinderella, and brought the kind of innocence to the stage that is exactly what the role requires. Alan Kim played the handsome prince, who falls in love with the dear Cinderella. Both had tremendous triumphs in their roles. Each character brought a flair to the production that was unmatched by any other character.

The hilarious stepmother and sisters were wildly funny and amazing. Ashley McAdam was perfect as the stepmother and Taylor Johnston’s laugh was as charming as the prince himself. The writing was full of puns and plays on words. Kaelynn Mathews made a convincing Fairy Godmother. Her large purple dress brought inner strength to the quietly strong Cinderella.

Recently, the Theater 3 and 4 classes came together to produce two plays that were simply wonderful. Check Please was a comedy that was performed on the same night as the tragedy Pulse. Both were shown on May 1st.

The focus in Theater 3 and 4 was advanced acting, directing, and writing. Check Please was a pleasingly funny depiction of the dating world. The two leads were hopelessly going on dates and could never find the right person, but by the end of the show, they finally found each other. It’s a less convoluted When Harry Met Sally.

Pulse did not fail in it’s description of tragedy. A struggling family suffers an extreme loss that was an indirect consequence of the family’s dysfunction. Alan Kim and Samuel Fobes, the writers of Pulse, effectively brought the audience to a dark place through the characters.

The Theater classes were spectacular in their ability to produce a full play, with multiple scenes and acts. The actors are all talented, and the returning students are sure to be even better next year. Air Academy’s Theater deserves a round of applause for all the effort they’ve put into entertaining the Kadet community. Be sure to make it out to the Fall Play, the Spring Musical, and the Short Plays next year!
