Dancing With Jay

The night that so many juniors and more importantly, seniors, look forward to all second semester was a blast from the past, with its Great Gatsby theme and luxurious venue. The desserts were not to be missed, the jams were bumping, and the students were busting a move or two everywhere on the dance floor.

The music selection ranged from songs that were easy to dance to, to not so easy to dance to, but that didn’t matter in the slightest because Air Academy always knows how to have a good time.

The Antlers Hilton was a beautiful venue that did not disappoint. The Antlers parking garage accommodated for Colorado’s predictably unpredictable weather, which helped girls keep dresses dry and hair intact.

After the elevator ride from the underground, prom goers were greeted with a lobby and a line that lead to the ballroom. Once in the dance, the coat check seemed relatively organized.

At the back of the ballroom were tables and a large table covered in little desserts that were simply scrumptious!

There was plenty of music that thankfully didn’t have to be turned down at 10 because of hotel quiet hours (unlike last year). Everyone was dancing and socializing and being generally jovial throughout the night.

A huge congratulation is also in order for the queen and king of the night, Ms. Rachel Martino and Mr. Jake Vargas! They were a very handsome couple.

Once the dance was drawing to a close and after prom was coming closer, students began to leave and that means the poor coat check had a rather large influx of business.

Around 11:30 many people swarmed the coat check hoping for a quick escape, but that is not such an easy task. Many coats look exactly alike and that isn’t a good thing, when the owner lost their coat check tag. There are so many look-alike boutonnières, so that’s not an ideal indicator of ownership either. People had to go into coat check and find their own belongings. There were jackets on the ground, the plastic bags for shoes all looked fairly similar as well. It was as if a very small tornado had unleashed a little chaos into the room.

Going into after prom was a wet experience because the Colorado night proved a rainy-snowy night indeed.  The stillness inside the Brunswick Zone was refreshing, because it was the perfect place for tired students to take a nap and regain some energy. NOT!

The Brunswick zone boasts a fine selection of arcade games, laser tag, and bowling. The laser tag tickets go fast, so one must be sure to hustle over there to get a game in before the night (early morning) is over.

Bowling also seems to fill up very quickly, so be sure to grab a lane before someone else does!

The oddest thing about after prom is that students go from looking like royalty back to normal people and that transition shatters illusions.

After dancing, a little pizza and donuts can go a long way! There were boxes and boxes and boxes of donuts littering the counters…a wide variety of flavors and styles.

After prom was filled with fun and prizes, some prizes larger than others, and is not a night to be forgotten. A few people left with small televisions, Bluetooth speakers, a microwave, and gift certificates to many different vendors.

All in all, prom was a huge success and it was easy to get lost in the night and have fun.
