Athlete of the Month | January
Megan Dearden – Swimming
Drum roll please. Megan Dearden is everything you would every want to be and then some. She is smart, funny, wholesome and – you guessed it- a fantastic athlete. Once Megan dives into that water, it’s as if she herself becomes one with it because she just slices through that water like it’s nothing. Yet you wouldn’t expect anything less once you realize the time and commitment Megan puts into swimming.
Since she was a little girl, Megan has been hitting the water and hitting it hard, and as the years went on, Megan has only been dedicating more and more time. Not only does Megan train all year round with a club team, but during the winter season Megan also trains with Air Academy’s own team and just totally rocks it. This year marks Megan’s fourth and last year as a Lady Kadet, it also marks her third year as a state qualifier. But wait, there’s more; Megan is also one of the Girls’ Swim and Dive team Captains. Quite frankly Megan has it all. You might be wondering if she ever has free time between two swim teams and school. That’s a good question. Megan is not only a great swimmer she is also a great student, so when it comes down to doing homework she easily whips it out in a couple hours and spends the rest of the time indulging in some much needed relaxation time where she hangs out with friends, reads, listens to music and other relaxing activities. On behalf of our Kadet family, thank you for being so good at what you do.
Jarod Kane – Hockey
Let me introduce one of Air Academy’s greatest starters, Jarod Kane. If you ever have the pleasure of watching Jarod on the ice, it will leave you speechless and maybe in tears. He has helped the ice hockey team bring in win after win after win, which includes the glorious defeat against our greatest rival Cheyenne Mountain; and you can bet that not only will there be more wins, you will also see them in play offs and probably state. Jarod has not only been participating since way back when, he also wakes up at the crack of dawn most mornings and practices to be the best. Yes, the crack of dawn is extremely early but hockey is something that he loves. But Jarod doesn’t just win on pure talent; he has people that he looks up to. “Evgeni Malkin has always been someone that I respect on the ice because I really like the way he plays and he is a hard worker on and off the ice,” Jarod admits, “and I really look up to my dad because he is always there for anybody, whenever and wherever.” When Jarod is not practicing or training, he is either studying, doing his homework or hanging out with his friends and just doing his things, loving life. He also brings home the bacon while at work. So, Jarod, a message from your Kadet family- we think you are the coolest and the greatest and hope that you continue to bring home wins.
