swimSammy Steigerwald

One could say that Sammy Steigerwald is a great swimmer, but that would be underplaying her abilities. Sammy is an angel when it comes to swimming, a goddess amongst men; it’s rumored that she out swam a shark, and sharks swim incredibly fast. She is the apple of our eye when it comes to the Air Academy swim team, you can put her in any race or relay and she will bring home the bacon. Of course Sammy didn’t just come out of the womb swimming like Michael Phelps- pre marijuana of course- she has been training since a very young age. “Swimming is a sport that I love and it is definitely my favorite sport,” Sammy says. Not only does she train with Air Academy’s own swim team she also trains with a club team where she recently set some new personal records. With both teams Sammy trains a lot, a lot a lot. Air Academy’s team trains on average 7 times a week for 2 hours and her club team trains 8 times a week for 2 hours also and  that hard work paid off. Just this past year Sammy has made big strides, she says that the progress she has made in a short amount of time is unreal and hopes that it just gets better and better. Also last year, when Sammy was a sophomore, she was apart of Air Academy’s own “Dream Team,” a team who broke the girls swimming 400 Freestyle Relay record by 0.02 seconds, a record they were set on beating since the start of the season, but Sammy isn’t stopping there; she is hoping by the end of her senior swim season, before she heads off to college, she will be able to break and set some new school records- a feat that is totally in her reach. Yet the most important part of being a student athlete has to be theirs grades and Sammy just happens to be a model student outside the pool as well, it just isn’t fair, but it comes with a price. “I don’t have too much free time,” Sammy says, “but when I do I read and hang out with my non-swim friends because I don’t see them as much.” Bless you Sammy for being an excellent Kadet in and out of the water.

Isaiha Easley

Isaiha Easley

If I had to sum up Isaiah Easley in a few words they would be hard working, dedicated, gentle giant. It would be hard to find someone at Air Academy that is as spirited and athletic as Isaiah. He works hard on every single thing he sets his mind to, which of course includes homework- but I am not here to talk about Valedictorian Easley, I am here to talk about athlete of the month Easley. This year marks the second year that Isaiha has been a member of Air Academy’s Cheer Team and has broken through the ranks and has proved to be quite a leader. “Cheer leading is one of the hardest sports I have ever done and I love it,” Isaiha says. He even has applied to a bunch of different colleges with a co-ed cheer team in order to tryout for them with the hopes of continuing his career further.
Earlier I described Isaiha as a gentle giant and this is why; Isaiah is a beast when it comes to weightlifting and can probably throw a cow over Colorado’s many 14-ers, but at the same time, he is one of Air Academy’s friendliest faces who would most likely give CPR to a dying fly if it were possible. Isaiha frequently hits the gym to stay in shape throughout the year so he can be successful in partner stunting, “I train a lot and 98% of it is mostly just lifting and stunting techniques,” Isaiha says. There is not a day that passes that you can walk into after school weights and not see Isaiha pumping iron or in the middle gym practicing with his team.  Isaiha is also a well-rounded athlete, just this year Isaiha walked on to Air Academy’s football team and dominated the field. But where Isaiah truly dominated this year was on that cheer mat and in our hearts.
