History Rewritten
Air Academy’s second trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park ended differently than before; this time around, the Kadets would emerge victorious. The boys’ soccer team finished the season undefeated (20-0) and even more remarkably, only five goals were scored against them. The team is ranked 22nd in the nation, 1st in Colorado, and finished the season with 102 goals according to Max Preps. Through hard work, dedication, and a united team front, the Air Academy boys emerged from a crushing defeat in the finals last year to be a national powerhouse this year. Captains Mark Beatty and James Sims led the team through their leadership on and off the field. Early season victories over Pine Creek (2-1) and Cheyenne Mountain (1-0) boosted the team’s confidence and continued the teams winning streak. Senior Austin Dewing was voted Player of the Game at the state finals because his leadership and determination drove the team to a State Championship. Dewing finished the season with 90 points, 34 goals, and 22 assists. Seniors James Sims and David Louthan stepped up to take two PK’s during the final match; both scored. At the end of the 80 minutes, our team had defeated TCA (2-0) for the well-deserved State Championship by mustering a group effort as well as keeping a determined mind set. The Air Academy boys had their thoughts on the goal and scored big time.
