Racing Towards Another Victory

Michael Phelps won’t make any promises about competing at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and adding to his 22 Olympic medal collection, but our boys swim and dive team are ready to win their third consecutive State Championship title. Senior, Swim Captain and State Qualifier, Brennan Mays says that the swim team has very good chance of winning this year- Max Preps has already seeded our boys to win, they are ahead by 10 points-DCC is runner up. Yet they still have to perform at their very best to ensure another win, this year’s competition will be down to the races. Each of our state qualifiers that have helped win our State Titles the past two years, including Jack Dangermond, Hunter Doerr, Alan Kim, Ben Shaw and Michael Lloyd, will be returning and they are not too worried.

Their team spirit is higher than the last two years because in order to win this year’s competition they “actually have to work together and rely on one another,” says Miles Coker, another state qualifier, and the swim team feels that they are even better this year. A good indication of their heightened skill is that at a meet at Coronado all of our relays broke Coronado’s pool records, Tommy Baker and Caleb Hicks together broke over four school records. So my fellow Kadets, have no fear, each member of the swim team, swim coaches and our school has complete faith that our boys will swim away with their third consecutive state title because the sun never sets on the boys swim team.

Update

The State Championship for 4A in Colorado ended with a three-peat from our State Swimmers. Air Academy won with 280 points over second place, Thomson Valley, with 244 points. Lead by Junior Hunter Doerr, two out of the three relays achieved first and State records. Our 400 free relay with Hunter Doerr, Tommy Baker, Caleb Hicks, and Jack Dangremond won first, breaking the old record and becoming All-Americans.
