Vroom Vroom

Let’s be honest, teens are crazy about cars. Everything about them are appealing, from the idea of freedom to the idea of growing up. With a car and an appropriate amount of gas money, you can now go bowling with your friends or go cloud watching all on your own time. No more waiting for mom. Cars are great no matter what, but what car really pleases your parents and you?

Being in Colorado Springs, cars need to be well rounded. To handle the crazy weather, they need to have four wheel drive, butt warmers, and much more. Social factors are important as well. Having massive subs and hilarious spinners are great, but more reasonably, a good blue tooth or audio jack is almost always necessary, especially as radios only offers so much and cassette players are very vintage. To the interior, leather seats are great compared to fabric, but expensive. Fabric is always warmer in the winter, and, compared to the cold we have had for the past few months, it’s reasonable, but be careful of stains. If you have a pet, leather seats almost always have priority. These are simple features in cars that can vary from person to person.

Many of us drive a decent way to get to school, whether it be using the highway or many back roads, and so we need good gas mileage. Paying for gas is always a pain and having to ask your parents is even worse. More miles per gallon is always something to want, it’s cheaper and takes less time fueling up!

Perfect cars are expensive and many parents opt out for cheaper, more dangerous rust buckets. This can be quite dangerous as teenage drivers are among the scariest of drivers (old people are first of course). Sometimes paying an extra couple thousand dollars to ensure your kid’s safety is worth it. Roshni, a junior at Air Academy High School, got in a car crash recently. Her car, a Toyota Carolla, spun out due to the snow while on Rockrimmon and Anaconda. She slammed into a fence and totaled her car. Roshni said, “I was scared, but more scared about what my parents would say.” Roshni had her seatbelt on, but didn’t have four wheel drive or ABS, a must-have for a car in Colorado Springs. Roshni is only one of many who have been the victim of the serious snowstorms.

Due to living in Colorado Springs, we have crazy weather and dangerous roads, so drive safe and avoid the scares of telling your parents about accidents.
