Modern fashion may not be so modern after all.  Fashion trends from the 80s are becoming more and more popular in the teenage culture of the 21st century, but now with a modern twist.  The top fashionable look from the 80s was most notably neon explosion. Our fashion of the 21st century could arguably be developed from the same styles our parents wore.  Looks like teenagers don’t have such different fashion sense than their parents, sorry kids!  Take a look and see which styles you’re into.

  • Blue or purple eyeliner and mascara– Adding a pop of the color to your eyes is back in style for girls.
  • Ripped jeans– Jeans with a grungy, ripped look are becoming more common for the “modern” look.  You can dress them up or dress them down; the great thing about ripped jeans is they match every shirt and every accessory you can think of.
  • Pink lip gloss, lip stick, or blush– Women are getting crazier with color with brighter lips and accents to their face.
  • Oversized tops– Oversized tops are the perfect, cute, comfy look we all want! Add a scarf, leggings, boots, and leg warmers and you’ve got yourself an easy, stylish 80s outfit.
  • Mini skirts- Mini skirts are the perfect apparel for summer fun.  Teenagers of the 21st century are finding new ways to accessorize their mini skirts to create new looks for our generation.

Colorful pattern leggings– With the ever-growing love of leggings, why not bring your style up a notch and show off your legs with new patterns and colors with your leggings?

  • Units- Have you ever heard of a unit?  As a fashionable, simple dress of the 80s, there are millions of ways to add your own unique style to it.
  • Acid Washed Jeans- Not only are ripped jeans back in style, but jeans with a faded or acid wash are breaking out on the shelves of popular store brands!
  • Jumpsuits- Jumpsuits were all the rage in the 1980s, and now, our generation has modernized its look to what we now know as rompers.  Is it hot outside? Throw on a romper and some gladiator shoes and soak in the heat while it’s still there!
  • Baja Hoodies- Baja hoodies are an easy way for the guys to spruce up their lazy days.  With so many different colors and designs, you won’t get tired of seeing people in them.

When asked what was her favorite 80s style was, Madison May says, “I like Baja hoodies because they’re the hobo chic and a fancy hoodie in one!”  As our culture develops, people are craving new fashion, new ideas, and better looks.  Mixtures of styles from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 21st century are giving the everyday, laid back style more spice.  Are you a fan of styles from the 80s? Look around your school, these styles are popping up on students faster than you can imagine! So, add some of these looks to your everyday apparel and surprise your friends with your new, eclectic style.
