Old Saint Nick’s Top Five Albums
December 5, 2017
It’s that time of year again Kadets; the Holiday Season is back. When you think Holidays, what’s the first thing that pops into your mind? If you answered Christmas music, then you got it. Though there might be some debate as to when it is acceptable to start listening to Christmas music, there is no doubt about how fantastic it is! Many artists have had their crack at making a Christmas album, but a select few have really hit it out of the park. This list is my top five Christmas albums that I highly recommend will jingle your bells.
1. The Jackson Five- Christmas AlbumĀ
With the help of his family, young Michael Jackson’s lead vocals on this album are a unique approach to the classic Christmas tunes. His voice gives the tunes a childlike, almost light feel that completely evokes the joyful feeling of songs like “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Frosty the Snowman.” Even “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” has a light feeling.
2. Frank Sinatra- A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra is one of the most popular singers in history, so it would only make sense that his Christmas albums would be just as fantastic as his other music. Being one of the largest names in the Christmas music catalog, Sinatra has many studio albums and other compilations of Christmas music that cover just about every Christmas song you can think of. This album in particular exhibits his ability in the Christmas genre.
3. Dean Martin- The Dean Martin Christmas Album
Like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin was a well known singer who knew his way around a Christmas tune. His low, powerful voice stands out immensely against the soft, touching melodies of the classic Christmas songs. “Marshmallow World” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” are two standouts on the album, but every song has become a staple song for the Holidays.
4. Elvis Presley- Elvis’ Christmas Album
The King himself took a stab at the Christmas business, and he hit the mark. This album is made up of classics like “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “White Christmas”, while giving a new aged spice with “Blue Christmas” and “Santa Bring My Baby Back (To Me)”. Elvis’ warm low voice fits perfectly into the heart-warming tunes and leaves the listeners with a loving touch of Christmas.
5. Michael Buble- Christmas
This jam packed album (16 songs) is a compilation of the most classic, well-known Christmas songs of all time with a throwback style that only Buble himself could harness. Highlights include “Ave Maria”, “Holly Jolly Christmas” and “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”. The combination of an old school style and high quality recording and mixing gives the album an almost angelic, magical sound that comes through in each and every song.
So there you have it! In my humble opinion, these albums do the best job of putting people in the spirit of Christmas. Put one of these on in the middle of a snowstorm and you won’t be disappointed!
