Home for the Holidays

Don’t blame me for being bah-humbug, but Christmas break in Colorado Springs can sound boring at first… especially if that’s how you spend it every year. Whether you’re sick of watching the Santa Clause 5 times a day or just want something extra, this list is sure to help keep your winter blues away.

1. The Electric Safari at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo:
Take a walk through the lit local zoo this winter break! All the animals share with you the experience of watching the 85 light sculptures light up the park. 23 nights is available this year, from December 9th to December 23rd, and then December 25th to January 1st. The best part? Santa visits every night. This walk-through with animals, ski lifts, lights, and more is a perfect winter celebration activity for everyone in your family.
2. The Broadmoor:
Although the famous golf course will likely close by winter break, the Broadmoor is a hotel here in Colorado Springs hosting events all season. The Christmas House is located on the hotel campus and sells every Christmas and holiday gift and decoration imaginable. Often reindeer and Santa visit the Christmas House. Evening movies are played daily for those staying in the hotel, and it’s likely the festive movies will come soon. The hotel annually hosts a light show in and around the buildings, and on the historic trees. This is a perfect way to get in the festive mood without a dollar spent.
3. Seven Falls:
Looking for something more adventurous? Looking for a beautiful 2.5-mile round trip hike to see Seven Falls lit up as a rainbow at night? We’ve got just the thing. Mount Cutler is a great, easy trail for all families. It’s beautiful at all hours of the day, but after dark, the visible falls are lit up in color. This trail can be very slippery and icy in day or night, so please use caution whenever hiking in the snow! The trailhead is slightly hidden off of the Canyon Road.
4. Get organized for the second semester:
We are one down and one to go, and this break is the ideal time to set yourself up for a great way to end the year.
5. Relaxation time:
Enough said.

Remember to stay safe this winter break on the roads, trails, and zoo pathways. Happy holidays, Kadets.
