Republican front-runner, Donald Trump, was recently publicly endorsed by Sarah Palin, which scientists are now saying is proof that birds of a feather flock together. As a result, the support for Trump by this Alaskan governor has the possibility of dividing people’s opinions even more so.

“Are you ready for the leader to make America great again?” Mrs. Palin said next to Mr. Trump at a rally at Iowa State University. “Are you ready to stump for Trump? I’m here to support the next president of the United States— Donald Trump,” she affirmed.

Palin’s backing of Trump doesn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone. Both of them have said incredibly controversial things while in the limelight. For example, in the past year, Trump has shared his feelings about many topics, including how he feels about his daughter, Ivanka. To be more specific, he stated, “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” And while some of Palin’s comments are not quite as disturbing as Trump’s, they are still quite troubling.

To elaborate, Palin’s son was arrested recently on counts of domestic violence towards his wife. The 2008 vice president runner-up suggested that her son’s actions were due to his time at war and alluded to the opinion that it was at the fault of President Obama.

Donald Trump has been the cause of division among many groups of people, including our very own journalism staff. The main argument both for and against Trump is that he speaks his mind, which can also easily be applied to Palin. When asking a conservative Republican, it was generally stated that both politicians can be compelling, based on their “American” ideals and unfiltered opinions, however, when I asked a left-wing supporter, they told me, “The so-called truths they are saying are offensive and I don’t think being mean is the American way.”

Trump is currently in the lead for the Republican candidates in the election that will happen later this year, and he has been accused of and hated because of racism and sexism. Sex discrimination in his campaign is the latest allegation. To clarify, a woman who has previously worked on his campaign stated that men were being paid more for doing the same job as women, yet Mr. Trump has denied this.

Ever since his announcement of candidacy, Trump has not had a break from the tabloids. It is evident that he is not worried about his public image at this point because for the most part it has helped his race. There is no doubt that this won’t be the last article the Jetstream Journal will write about him.
