Scene and Heard

I have been a die-hard fan of Panic! At The Disco ever since I can remember. My older sister was my role model (like most older siblings) and I would listen to her music. When I was younger, I got a brand-new little shuffle, and at the time I thought it was amazing. Little did I know, when I went to reach for that awesome device that stored all the pop music that a young child was subjected to, my sister decided to steal my pride and joy.

However, now I realize that was one of the best moments that could have happened to me as an adolescent. After a tantrum about how my sister had stolen my iPod, she returned it to me several months later, but she did not delete any of the music that she had put in place of mine.

When I listened to the iPod again for the first time, I was in awe. No longer was I much into the radio hits that I listened to in the car over and over again, but was now interested in the type of music that my older siblings liked. That included music from artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Panic! At The Disco (of course), Fall Out Boy, Postal Service, The Decemberists, Saves the Day, and the list goes on. This was at the ripe old age of about 7 or 8. From then on, I was hooked.

That being said, I grew up listening to Panic! At The Disco mostly, but I at least started to develop my own musical tastes.  A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005) has and always will be my favorite album by them. They have not really made an album yet that has been very similar to it, though they have produced 4 albums since then.

Recently, Panic! At The Disco released an album after 3 years, Death Of A Bachelor. January 15th is when the album came out, although they practically released half the album beforehand– this is one of my biggest complaints about the album. Usually, an artist only leaks about three songs before it is actually let out. Yet this album only consists of 11 songs, and they had 6 songs out for purchase already. Secondly, I don’t particularly like most of the songs, it sounds like they tried too hard to make songs that would be radio hits, including “Emperor’s New Clothes,” “Victorious,” and “Hallelujah,” which was the intention I’m sure since they are singles. It’s just sad that they would create an album that is all about trying to be on the radio, in my opinion.

On the other hand, my sympathetic side does come in since I’ve been a fan for so long. I love “Death Of A Bachelor,” and also “Crazy=Genius.” I’m guessing once I listen to the album about another 10 times I’ll most likely love the album even more; I just have a very fickle perspective right now. I guess I want them to make another album like A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, but they did release that one in 2005, so you could say I’m just being hopeful.
