Senior pranks are a common practice in high schools across the United States. Known as “muck-up day” in Australia and the United Kingdom, the senior prank is a practical joke organized by the senior class before they graduate.

Common pranks include filling the hallways of the school with plastic cups of water, putting sticky notes along the walls, and hiding alarm clocks around the school. None of these, however, are suggestions for this year’s graduating class. It is a common reality for student to forget about the possible consequences for their pranks despite how inappropriate they may be. Last April, seniors of Sequoyah High School took an innocent prank too far and 100 students were banned from graduation.

There is a history of senior pranks at Air Academy High School, both successful and unsuccessful. Some of the more recent pranks include a variety of animal abuses: crickets in the vents and chicks in the courtyard. Last year the seniors brought their dogs to school for a day full of canine classes, but sadly both the pups and their owners had to return home.

I won’t be the person to reveal what the class of 2016 has up their sleeves but I can give some hints. An anonymous student at AAHS told me, “I want a bunch of students to dress up as [teachers name] and follow them around all day.” So if you are a teacher at Air Academy, it could be you. Even more likely if you are a science teacher.

Senior pranks are just one of the traditions that seniors here at Air Academy and across the U.S. partake in. Senior skip day, senior breakfast, and the senior prank are all monumental events that make four years in high school special. Don’t be the person who ruins it.
