A new era of golf has been ushered in by the 21 year old phenom, Jordan Spieth. After coming in second the year before, Jordan Spieth was able to come back and win the Masters by 4 strokes in a dominating performance that is comparable to Tiger Woods in his prime. Spieth tied Tiger Woods’ 72 hole course record at the Masters by shooting 270 (-18) over four days. This win not only boosted his popularity, but his checkbook as well considering winning the tournament nets him a whopping 1.8 million dollars to go along with countless endorsement deals now available to the young golfer. Fans of the sport all around the globe are hoping that Spieth can continue his run of excellence as the sport has lacked a face to represent the PGA tour since the meteoric fall of Tiger Woods, and Spieth certainly fits the bill.

Spieth, born July 22, 1993, grew up playing golf in Dallas, Texas. Jordan Spieth won the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur twice joining Tiger Woods as the only player to win the tournament twice. He was then ranked number 1 Junior Golf player in the country in 2011. Jordan Spieth decided to play his college golf in his home state at the University of Texas, his frehman year, he lead his team to the national title and was an All-American as well as Big 12 Player of the year. Spieth decided to leave college early to pursue his professional career on the tour after a formidable showing as an amateur at a tournament. Three years after this decision, with multiple tournament victories and top ten finishes along the way, Jordan Spieth became the winner of the most prestigious tournament on the PGA tour. To sum that all up, he is really good at golf.

However, his undeniably incredible golf talent is not the only reason he will most likely be the face of Golf for years to come. Much like Tiger Woods before his scandal and the truth came out, he is a very likeable person. Spieth is humble, hardworking, and cares about the people around him. In fact, he even started a charity foundation called the “Jordan Spieth Charitabe Foundation” which provides financial assistance to families with special needs children, something that hits close to home with him as he has a sister with special needs, military families, and youth golf. Jordan Spieth seems like the perfect person to raise golf’s popularity from the slump it has encountered recently.

Pat Rishe, a sports economics professor at Webster University, said that in order for golf to become popular once more in American households a player will need to go on a run of excellence similar to Tiger Woods. What player more accurately fits the bill than Jordan Spieth? If he continues his current pace, then he may have a chance to mirror the incredible play of Tiger Woods before his scandal.

All in all, Jordan Spieth is a very good golfer and candidate to be the face of golf for the next two decades or so. Look out golf, there is a new Tiger on the prowl.
