Air Academy High School (AAHS) prides itself on inclusivity, especially when welcoming new students. As of the start of the second semester, Air Academy got the opportunity to welcome junior Julia Miller a transfer student from Discovery Canyon High School. Miller has already taken Air Academy academics by storm, especially regarding DECA. By already being an impactful student here at AAHS, Miller has been a stand-out student who should be brought into the spotlight more for what she has done.
“I decided to transfer to AAHS mainly for the DECA program here at the school, but also since my brother was already attending Air Academy it made the decision to transfer even easier for me and the family,” Miller stated.
There could have been numerous reasons for Miller’s transfer, but the stand-out DECA program helped persuade her decision even more. There is also more to Miller than just her performance so far in DECA.
“I have played volleyball for as long as I can remember. With that, I have competed on multiple club teams. I finished out my volleyball career at DCC since making the switch at the very beginning of the year would have been harder for me to get any playing time,” Miller said enthusiastically.
Miller has already found a groove at AAHS, especially with her group of friends from both the DECA world and the athletic world.
“When I first Julia she was fun and kind of bouncy. She was just easy to talk to and have a good time with,” junior Rammah Khammdash stated.
Not only that but Miller is also taking a college course load over at Pikes Peak College to get an earlier jump on academics for when she applies to college.
“I take one class with Julia and we always sit by each other to help one another out. Especially considering that we are the two youngest girls in the class,” senior Payten Hall stated.
When asking Miller what her plans are for the future she shared her aspirations for what she plans on doing and what her goals are for when she heads off to college.
“I hope to attend a bigger university to major in business. My whole family went to Clemson so I have to keep them in mind, but I want to be by the ocean for when I am looking into schools,” Miller said passionately.
Another reason for Miller’s transfer was to be closer to her brother when it came to driving to school. When asked about why both Miller and her brother went to different schools in the first place she elaborated.
“Both of us live closer to DCC but the main reason was because of sports and driving back and forth between our house and school,” junior Luke Miller stated.
Miller has made a tremendous impact so far with such little time here at AAHS. From passionate devotion in DECA to even thriving in taking a tough course load. Especially with Miller being a junior she still has such a long way to go to make her imprint here at AAHS for her senior year of high school!
