Analysis: How It Can Help Us
Is analysis important?
Analysis: A high school student’s struggle or strength. While some students believe that learning how to read between the lines is not necessary, other students and staff think that analysis is an important skill.
Analysis can be used to look deeper into any subject such as a research paper or find the solution to a problem. According to some students, learning analysis has no necessary function in everyday problems.
“Literary analysis never made a lot of sense to me, and I am not sure how it’ll help us in the future besides in the educational subject,” senior Ariana Porter stated.
Literary analysis can also create a positive influence on students by allowing them to go into the world with new perspectives and open-mindedness. These influences can help students develop problem-solving skills and an understanding of new challenges they might face in the future.
“Literary analysis helped me see things from different perspectives instead of one steady worldview,” senior Dani Richard stated.
Literary analysis may not be used in all subjects, but analyzing is something we do every day without anyone noticing, For example, when someone drives, they analyze their surroundings so they know when it’s time to slow down or merge. Literary analysis, on the other hand, can be used to understand art and music just as well as poetry.
“It gives us a deeper insight into the history of our culture,” senior Tabetha Brand stated.
Historians use literary analysis to make connections to other cultures as well as ours. Also, musicians do the same practice. When listening to music, the lyrics are kind of like a poem but with musical notes playing in the background. Sometimes connections are made with the musician by analyzing their lyrics and making connections to a person’s daily life or personal struggles.
Literature analysis taught in schools, however, makes the students feel that the information they are retaining is not going to be used outside of English at all. That might be true, but literature analysis could be in many people’s daily life even outside of English.
“It also focuses on subjects a large portion of the class won’t use outside of English,” Brand explained.
For future classes, educators should start roping other examples of analysis into their lessons to help teach the different types of analysis besides literature to help introduce the students to new life experiences and help broaden the way they see life. Using other examples of analysis can also help connect the students with subjects they might find interesting. This can allow the students to be more creative in their analysis no matter what subject it is.
From reading Macbeth to writing research papers, analysis is everywhere and even though literature analysis is not the fan favorite, it is just as important as any other analysis. It can be used in everything such as music, driving, math, or even watching a movie. Analysis is used everywhere and can overall help students throughout life if chosen.
