Christmas is near and it’s time for cheers. What could be more deserving of cheers than the famous song by the talented Mariah Carey titled, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”?

This wonderful piece was released on October 28, 1994, and since its release, the song has reached the top spot on the billboard top one hundred charts after thirty-five cumulative weeks. In the entirety of the chart’s history, this has been the slowest climb.

The achievements that the singer has gained from the hit is unbelievable. It has set the single-day record for the number of streams it got on Spotify which was 10.82 million. As of recent years, it has rebroken that record with 12.029 million streams.

Surprisingly, in the fall of last year, it won exactly three records in the Guinness World Records. It is baffling that this 1994 song is still breaking records to this day.

With the number of streams it has acquired, the question arises: Is the song generally liked?

Air Academy High School chemistry and forensics science teacher, Maria Martinez, who tends to play Christmas music during her classes, gives insight on her opinion.

“I do like the song, it is upbeat and happy,” Martinez added. “It makes me want to dance.”

“It’s the best modern Christmas classic due to its old school Motown sound. I find it amazing that she wrote this Christmas song in under one hour,” said Daisy Mora, a 2019 AAHS graduate and student at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Overall, it has a powerful legacy simply because of the fact that it has charted every single holiday season, causing Mariah to be called the queen of Christmas.

Speaking of the supposed queen of Christmas, how much do people know about her?

Sophomore Langston Ball shares his opinion.

“I don’t really know much about her, but I think that she’s a very talented person,” stated Ball.

Mariah is indeed a talented individual, after all, she holds so many records like having the most number-one singles by a solo artist, and female songwriter/producer. Over the entirety of her career, she has acquired fifteen Billboard Music Awards, five Grammy Awards, ten American Music Awards, and nineteen World Music Awards.

What even makes her more unique is that at the young age of three she started to sing, and as she grew into a teen, she then began to write lyrics and poetry. After graduating, she moved to New York and attended beauty school. She ended up being a backup singer for Brenda K. Starr and from there it launched her music career.

It is undeniable that Mariah is not only an incredible singer but an amazing songwriter. With how successful “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has been, the iconic diva is well-deserving of the title being the queen of Christmas.
