Athlete of the Month – Kassidy Huffman and David Louthan
Mid-season success is the story for Kassady Huffman as she comes off of her 7th win this season. Kassady is the center of the girls’ varsity basketball team, as well as one of the captains. She leads by example on and off the court by completing her homework on time and helping others when they ask. “My life is always moving fast with all the practice and homework I do, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Improving her game is always on Kassady’s mind as she practices five to six times a week during the season. Even when the season’s over, Kassady still hits the court hard, practicing twice a week, every week, no matter what she’s doing. She even plays summer basketball to keep her game at the highest level she can. After summer ball, she has a bit of a break until October when workouts for high school basketball start again. In between basketball for the school and summer ball, Kassady runs track for Air Academy as a high jumper.
This year marks the 11th year for David Louthan as a basketball player. David plays basketball on the varsity team as a forward for Air Academy High School. Improving his game on and off the court has been David’s goal throughout the year; it hasn’t been easy, but David works hard at everything he does. “It’s an incredible a challenge to balance school and basketball when both are such a priority. However, it is doable, and worth the effort in every way,” says David. As a leader on and off the court, David practices every day during the season on his own, in and out of season, except during the soccer season when he practices twice a week. Additionally, he practices with his team every day unless it’s a game day or during the weekend. Even with all his practice, he still finds time to do his homework, attend his cousins’ sporting activities, relax, and hang out with his cousins and friends.
