Christmas is the most-celebrated holiday in the country, proving itself to truly be the most wonderful time of the year. Sadly, the holiday season overshadows fall with its festivities. Christmas should be celebrated only in December so that November can be all about Thanksgiving.

“Once the month of October starts to come to an end, people begin to prepare for a very important part of the year,” claimed sophomore Kate Pearne, who wrote the article, “It’s Never Too Early for Christmas.” “Without this exciting period, the year would become dull and there would be nothing to look forward to.”

She makes a great point, but if the “holiday season” lasts too long, this exciting period starts to become dull.

This is why we need Thanksgiving. It’s a buffer between Halloween and Christmas so we can calm down, relax and do some last-minute shopping on Black Friday.

People need to slow down so they don’t get caught up in the rush of the holidays. Thanksgiving is the time to reflect on the year before it comes to an end, whereas Christmas is something to start looking forward to around the end of November, then properly celebrate in December.

Christmas is a special time of the year; therefore, it should only be celebrated in December because it makes it more special,” said sophomore Kendal Smith.

It is important to not celebrate Christmas too early. Otherwise, it all feels like one big, three-month holiday.

Kate is right to think that Thanksgiving is a holiday that really prepares us for Christmas. Thanksgiving is about community and appreciating what we already have.

Christmas is about giving to the people we thought about on Thanksgiving. It’s about giving away what you want others to appreciate and receiving what you will later appreciate.

Every Thanksgiving is a unique and emotional memory of extended family members. It is very different from memories of Christmas, which are associated with snow and close family members.

The worst thing people can do is play Christmas music before December!

It will get annoying regardless of when you start playing it, but at least it’s festive in December. If Christmas music is played too early, it’s like Christmas is already here and Thanksgiving never came.

Worst of all, music gets people in the Christmas spirit. The Christmas spirit is a dangerous state of mind because it can inspire people to decorate.

Christmas decorations are a parasite that spreads from house to house. It starts with a single tree infecting the body and remains dormant until it snows. If left untreated, it will break out in lights–and at this point, there is no saving the house. The only hope is to wait until Groundhog Day and have faith that their condition will improve.

However, there is still hope. You can help to prevent this tragedy by simply waiting through Thanksgiving to celebrate Christmas. Avoid department store holiday sections and carve a turkey. This Thanksgiving, be thankful that it’s not Christmas…yet.
