The cast is practicing for their performance of Almost, Maine.

If you love adventure and heartbreak, then come see Almost, Maine produced by Air Academy’s theater program.

Senior Amanda Lyndon, a sound effect operator, gave a brief summary on the play:

“[The story] takes place in Maine and portrays 9 different love stories. Some are more abstract and one woman has a heart broken in 19 places,” said Lyndon. “The school play will be good to come and see because it supports the theater department and will be interesting to watch.”

Auditions for the school play started late September and roles were picked the next day. Actors and actresses immediately started reading the script when their roles were picked. Students undergo a pressed time to memorize the entire play from lines, scripts and tech cues.

“It takes a long time to build up sets and get everything painted,” said sophomore Josh Maynard. “We have to take time to analyze our characters outside of school to get the emotions out of them.”

The cast of techs are also greatly appreciated for all of their hard work. Theater is not an easy after-school program to come into, as it takes dedication and many practices after school. The whole production takes about a month to produce.

“One of the things I love about the play is that it has a big cast, and 19 students really get to shine and show off their talent. Everyone is a star for ten minutes,” said Director Susan Manst. “The play is about love, and it’s everything from the unknown in the relationship, to where is this going next?”

The play will take place Nov. 1, 2, and 3 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) at 7 pm in the Air Academy auditorium. An ASL interpreter will be present at the November 1 show.  Serving as tech director for this show is math teacher Glenn Hoit.

Tickets can be bought at the door or online at http://www.showtix4u.com for $10.00 per student and $12.00 per adult.
