Well… What Happens Next?

After four years of roaming the halls of Air Academy, it seems like our life has been defined by the time we’ve spent here. Everything that has happened, all of the good and the bad, has consumed our lives up to this point. Friendships, memories, drama, relationships, and the rest of the high school staples, have helped us find who we are, but have not defined us.

So…… what will we accomplish with these experiences?

The class of 2018 is moving on to the next chapters of life with a lot of support and good planning. As of right now, the class has around 8 million dollars of scholarship money, and the predicted numbers are looking to be around 12 million. About 81% of the class is moving on to college, which is a very good percentage. Another large portion of the class will be enlisting in the military after graduating.

“Enlisting in the military is a very honorable choice for graduating high school students,” says College Counselor Dr. Beers. “Many kids have families with military roots generations before them, and they want to carry on that legacy.”

Although the class of 2018 will graduate and move on to schools and jobs all across the country, many of us will face the same challenges and hardships. But in 2-3 years, will high school mean as much to us as it does right now?

“I remember thinking that everything that happened in high school was going to affect the rest of my life,” says soon-to-be junior at Creighton University Henry Yocum. “There were times that my friends and I made very big deals out of things that wouldn’t even phase me now.” Being Henry’s younger brother, I saw how he experienced high school. Being able to go to school with him for two years helped me realize the triviality of high school drama.

Although the things that happen in high school shouldn’t affect our lives in the future, the memories and friends we made will stay with us for life, helping us to remember our youth and how we got started on the wonderful and chaotic journey of life.
