Everyone knows there are two great movies in American history; Footloose with Kevin Bacon and Footloose with Julianne Hough.

Thankfully for us, prom combines the best of both worlds, bringing Footloose to the 2018 prom.

Planning a prom is no easy task, just ask junior Lauren Berg-Perlow.

“The hardest part about planning prom was communication and actually ordering all the small things that make prom memorable” she said. “Another hard part about planning prom this year was that there were only three students to plan this year.”

Typically juniors plan prom, ensuring it is a total surprise to all seniors.

Speaking of surprises, the theme is the one that is perhaps the most anticipated throughout the year.

“We chose the theme because the location matches the theme perfectly and because it’s an iconic movie for high schoolers in my opinion,” Lauren excitedly explains.

That location will be familiar to a few seniors who may have gone to prom their sophomore year as the location is Spruce Mountain out in Palmer Lake, near Monument.

The fabulous barn is the perfect setting for any one who is a fan of either movie, or even just fun country movies. The barn won’t be plain, however; it is always filled with creative and unique decorations.

The decorations are also thanks to the junior prom committee and other students around the school.

“We buy most of the decorations otherwise we buy supplies and student council or art students work on it,” says Lauren.

So who makes up this wonderful prom committee?

The hard work of planning an entire prom is left to 3 juniors: Lauren Berg-Perlow, Taylor Hoff, and Ally Raulie.

Thankfully for Ms. Maxwell, that small prom committee does a significant amount of the work.

“I basically do nothing for prom, I’m not the one who plans it,” explains Ms. Maxwell.

Another perk that is greatly looked forward to come prom season is whatever small gift is handed out- this year that happens to be a fun, plastic, and well decorated tumbler.

Make sure to swing by and purchase tickets for you and your date! After prom tickets can also be purchased in front of Student Services.
