Crimped hair, scrunchies, shoulder pads, and Polaroids seem to be a great description of the amazing decade known as the 1980’s. Although, in today’s generation these common trends can be used to describe what is now popular. Kids these days are following a wide variety of trends, and it appears that some of these trends are a result of the past decades.

Whether it be the outfits, hairstyles, or music kids are rocking out to, the 1980’s seem to be a common theme. To prove this point, I made a list of all the things that reveal that the 80’s are definitely making a comeback and becoming very trendy and popular.

Starting off with the obvious, music.

Music in the 80’s was very interesting and unique. It had a very distinct sound due to the amazing vocal stars such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, and David Bowie. Loud keyboard and drum solos became a must for all music created during this time period. Listen to some popular bands of the 80’s such as U2, Aerosmith, or Duran Duran and you’ll know what I mean.

Naturally, times change and the music changes with it. No one ever expected the unique 80’s music to comeback, that is, until E.D.M. (Electronic Dance Music) made an appearance. EDM is a reminder of 80’s because it captures what the music in the 80’s was, but puts a little spin on it. Popular artists such as the Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris are great examples of this type of music with a little bit of a modern twist.

Although music shows the 80’s making a comeback, fashion is just as big of a contender.

We have to agree that some trends just need to stay in the 80’s, but others are coming back and becoming extremely popular. We have fashion icons of the 80’s to thank for this, such as Madonna and Whitney Houston. Wild hair, bright makeup, and huge pieces of jewelry are examples of common fashion trends being copied by millennials today.

One of the most popular fashion trends making a comeback are crop tops. This popular look of the 80’s is coming back today, and millennials just can’t get enough of them. Kids cut their own shirts or sweaters to copy this look. Look around in almost any store you go into such as H&M or Forever 21, crop tops are definitely one of the most trendy comebacks of the 80’s.

Next, denim jackets are extremely popular in today’s generation, thanks to the 80’s. Almost everybody seems to own one of these jackets. Having a denim jacket is almost like a requirement for teens, whether you got one from the thrift store or bought a brand new one, these are a must have.

Makeup has evolved so much over time, from simple to dramatic, it changes constantly. However, colorful makeup has recently made its way back into our lives, and everybody is wearing it. Makeup companies are launching crazy colors to make you create a more wild and dramatic face. This is a major throwback to the 80’s to when teens used crazy eye shadow colors and bold lipsticks. Bold was the word of the 80’s because you could try out new things, such as rainbow eye shadow and not have to worry about being judged.

The year 2018 is starting to look a lot like the 1980’s because of so  many popular trends that remind us of that time. Whether it be makeup, music, or fashion, the 80’s are definitely making a comeback. This list may have made you realize that you are definitely living out the trends of the 80’s and show you how much of a comeback this time period is making!
