How to Become a Meme

The popularly known “Doge” meme.

With an abundance of hilariously stupid posts, becoming a meme is probably something that we’ve all thought of before. My dad, Christopher Jones, 38, says, ”Memes are essential to human existence and laughter is essential to a balanced personality.” Memes are highly respected works of art. This journey that you are about to embark on won’t be an easy one, so prepare accordingly. By following these steps, you’ll surely be meme-material in no time.

Step 1:

Enter your app store. Downloading a cringy meme generator is the way to go, and it doesn’t get much better than this. Running your meme generator opens a doorway to a new world of opportunity for all things amusing and peculiar. This is only the beginning.

Step 2:

Most meme generation apps include a stream of already made memes created by past people in your situation. By viewing these memes, you can gain a better understanding of what a quality meme is (if you don’t already know), and maybe even attain ideas that you might integrate into your own memes.

Now, before the creation of a meme begins, there are some ground rules. The first one is to not plagiarize the work of other meme makers. Doing this is not only wrong but gets old after a while. As a professional meme dealer, I can say that originality is key. Another rule is to be creative. What may seem dumb to you may be the funniest thing in the world to someone else, so don’t doubt yourself. These rules may make you want to rethink the meme-process but don’t. The last thing a meme need is thought.

Step 3:

It is time to create your meme. What you’ll need to do for this step, is find an image of yourself that you think will fit the idea of your meme. This picture can be anything from you eating an apple to being dressed in your best neon get-up. Taking photos that are blurry or focused are also accepted. Whatever your choice is, choose wisely.

Step 4:

Once your picture is chosen, place it into your app. The time has come to caption your meme, which in my personal opinion, is the hardest part. I’ve found that most meme captions are on the image, and are white in either Comic Sans or in Aerial. Either one works fine. When captioning your image, keep in mind that it needs to make sense of what’s depicted in your image. For example, if your image is of yourself carrying a backpack, you aren’t going to caption it “Queen Elizabeth’s magical wand” or anything out of the ordinary like that. Once the caption is written, it’s time to move on to the final step.

Step 5:

Once your meme is complete with its picture and caption, it’s time to publish. All of your hard work has finally paid off, and you can now submit your meme to the world. I can happily say that there’s at least one person out there that will respect and cherish your meme. If you’re lucky enough, your meme might even go viral.

The meme creation process may be complex, but in the end, it’s worth the laughs that will be born through the simple post. By publishing memes, you’re opening your sense of humor up into the world, especially when you’re publishing yourself as a meme. An addition of another meme to the web would be greatly appreciated by a plethora of people.
