Roses are red, violets are blue, stop buying roses, try something new.

Valentine’s Day seems to consist of the same traditions every year. Roses are given, chocolates are eaten, and teddy bears are adored. While these romantic gestures used to be the perfect way to show affection, they have become all too common.

The one thing that is guaranteed to “wow” your significant other is to be original. No more roses, no more chocolates, and especially, no more teddy bears. Try something new and just maybe you could re-spark the interest of your love.

When you walk into any grocery store or convenient store during February, the soft scent of roses is overpowering, and the bright red and pink shades can be seen even from the corner of your eye. While any lady would probably gladly accept a bouquet of red roses, maybe figure out what her favorite flower is and instead buy an arrangement of those to give to her. This can be seen as more thoughtful and sentimental.

“Roses are nice and all, but so cliche. I personally would not appreciate receiving them and I would not suggest them as a gift,” says Molly Carroll.

A date night on Valentine’s Day is a beautiful way to celebrate the love you share with someone. Although, a candlelit dinner has been the setting seen all too often near February 14th. Instead of eating a meal surrounded by fire, a more creative date may catch the attention of someone special. If you are in colder weather, try ice skating or karaoke with some dancing. If you are located in a hotter place, maybe a picnic on the beach or a groovy drive-in movie.

“I wish I lived in a warmer place, like California, then I could ditch the dinner and instead hang out on the beach. That would be the perfect way to spend V Day,” comments Molly Carroll.

Gift giving is the central theme of Valentine’s Day for any couple. Teddy bears, chocolate, and jewelry are probably the most common presents wrapped and given. This can be cute, but is it a romantic gesture? According to most, these are not as special as they seem. Maybe a letter or memory book would show your significant other that you care and appreciate them. If you are not into creating things, buy them something they noticed while window shopping or that they have told you about. This will show that you listen to their thoughts and understand what you like.

“I like receiving gifts, but the most special gifts are ones that demonstrate someone appreciates you and knows who you are. That makes getting it even more beautiful,” says Acacia Ryska.

With Valentine’s Day approaching rapidly, think about what would really be special and make this day unlike the rest. Some may love the cliche things surrounding Valentine’s Day, but if you are looking to change it up, try some of the things mentioned and maybe this day will lead you further in love than ever.
