Throughout Air Academy’s long history, the people, culture, and classes have all changed. Unfortunately, many of the students’ favorite classes had to be cut. Most of these classes were cut because they were too expensive or because of other complications.  Here are Air Academy’s long lost classes, revealed.

One of these long forgotten classes was Home Economics. In Home Ec., Students had the opportunity to learn about all of the tasks that needed to be done at home. Kadets would cook home-style meals such as macaroni and cheese, as well as delicious treats like homemade chocolate chip cookies. Then, of course, they got to eat their delicious creations, making this a very popular class in its day. Students also got to learn about the endless fun found in knitting and crocheting. People would make scarves as well as hats, and some advanced students would create sweaters.

Since Metalwork’s class is still offered at Eagleview, many do not realize that this class was once offered here at our school. In Metalwork’s, kids would be able to make whatever their heart desired, with metal that is. Students learned the basics of metalwork in this class and got to create some very interesting items, like picture frames. The students also learned how to weld metal items together, creating some pretty incredible works of art.

The students of Air Academy who have taken Ceramics know about the legendary class of Mechanics that used to inhabit the current ceramics room. In this class, students could learn about all the inner workings of a car and even had the opportunity to practice what they had learned on real-life cars. This gave students who had interest in becoming a mechanic real world experience in their field of interest.

One of the more interesting classes available to students was Biotech. In this genetic engineering class, Kadets learned about the wonders of chromosomes and cloning. This was one of the most interesting classes that was available to the students of Air Academy High School and many students wish that it was still available, just like a lot of these classes. However, this class does have a chance of making a comeback in the next two to three years.

The small gym of Air Academy High School, to everybody’s surprise, once had trampolines for the use of students. In fact, there was once a PE class for learning tricks on a trampoline. In this class, Kadets had the opportunity to learn about techniques commonly used in gymnastics and cheerleading such as tumbling and various types of airborne flips and tricks. This class was taken out when updates were made to the school and when the trampolines were taken out. Needless to say, this class would be a hit at Air Academy High School as the cheer program has grown into a state powerhouse in the last few years.

For whatever reason these classes were cancelled, everybody misses these wonderful classes. Although these classes have been gone for quite a long time, memories of their greatness still stick fresh in the students’ minds.
