Fall Sports Overview 2017
October 31, 2017
Cross Country: Both girls and boys teams represented the Kadets in a great light this season. In the regional meet, the girls took home the first place trophy, and the boys took home second. Paige Embaugh grabbed the second place title for individuals, and Tatum Miller was third. For the boys, Cal Banta, Luke Thurman, and Dillon Powell placed second, third, and fourth respectively. Cal Banta’s personal record this season falls just at 15:20, and Tatum Miller’s 17:42 proves to be enough for a title.
Football: A feat that seemed impossible for the Air Academy Teams in the past, the 2017 football team finds themselves 5 and 4 with one game left in the season. Increasing our win percentage over 100% from last season, and 500% from the 2015 season, it seems Kadet football has turned over a new leaf. After a nail-biter senior night game against Mesa Ridge, the boys could be looking at a 6 and 4 total if they take the W on Saturday against Pueblo Centennial.
Soccer: Soccer season has yet to come to a close, as the Kadets continue the fight through the state bracket. With an undefeated season, it was no surprise when they came in seated #1 when the state bracket was released. The first round against Thompson Valley was a nail-biter at K-Dome while the boys followed 0-1 at half. But with an amazing comeback, the Kadets took the lead to end the game 4-1. Kristian Hooker, Kelton Hooker, Brayden Jonswold and Thad Dewing each had one for the Kadets.
Golf: The golf team consists of every male golfer at Air Academy as they have been reduced down to just one team. Though they didn’t get the chance to grab a first place trophy as a team, many boys took a stab at placing individually during the regular season. Post-season, Junior Gage Nartker was the sole Kadet representing at the state tournament.
Tennis: On the court, the boys tennis team had no trouble bringing home trophies since all 7 varsity players continued their season into the state tournament. Individually in the state tournament, Josh Voss went to quarterfinals for Number 1 Singles.
Volleyball: The lady Kadet volleyball girls come close to finishing the season 9 and 10, with one game left against Montrose on October 28th. The girls are 4 and 3 for league games, serving a total of 163 aces and an average of 9.6 kills per game. Victoria Lambos, who has committed to attend USAFA to play volleyball next year, leads the team with 100% kill and hit percentages.
Softball: As the state tournament finished over the weekend of October 20th, Kadet Softball ended their season 14-9. With a batting average of .587, Karsen Romines leads the team over their average of .357. The team toppled their rival DCC mid season with a score of 3 to 1 behind the lead of Pitcher Cassidy Horn, who allowed just two hits and one run all game.

This is a great, comprehensive overview of a busy sports season. Good job Air Academy! I would love to have more of these for winter and spring.
