Getting to Know Trump’s Proposed Cabinet

New Cabinet, Who Dis? As the Trump administration has been in office for a total of 12 days, we cannot continue to ignore the policies and beliefs of the proposed staff of President Trump. Twelve of the fifteen proposed members of the Trump Cabinet happen to fit the perfect politician stereotype: white and male. The other three include one black male, an Asian American female, and one white female. Let’s get to know the staff*:

James N. Mattis: Secretary of Defense
A retired US Marine Corps general, 11th commander of the United States Central Command, and achieved veteran; James N. Mattis was the first of Trump’s Cabinet to be confirmed by the senate.

John F. Kelly: Secretary of Homeland Security
Just like James N. Mattis, John F. Kelly is a retired US Marine Corps general, as well as the commander of the United States Southern Command. He served in Iraq for a year, before returning home to be the senior military assistant to the previous Secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates. John F. Kelly is the second of Trump’s proposed to be confirmed by the senate.

Jeff Sessions: Attorney General
The nominee is the junior Senator from Alabama from the Republican Party. Jeff Sessions was an advocate for George W. Bush and his policies and a supporter of the ban on same-sex marriage. Due to Jeff Sessions’ early support of President Trump, he was one of the many that were on the table for being his VP.

Rex W. Tillerson: Secretary of State
Rex Wayne Tillerson was CEO of Exxon-Mobil from 2006-2016. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Trump announced on December 13 that Tillerson will be his Secretary of State Nomination.

Elaine L. Chao: Secretary of Transportation
The first Taiwanese woman in history to be appointed to a President’s Cabinet under George W.Bush. She served as the Secretary of Labor through 2001-2009.

Ben Carson: Secretary of Housing
Ben Carson, a renowned doctor, became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33 and earned fame for his groundbreaking work separating conjoined twins. In 2013, he stopped medical work to devote his time to Politics as he ran for president in the 2016 election.

Steven Mnuchin: Secretary of Treasury
Steven Mnuchin is a banker who has worked for Goldman Sachs and in the 2008-2009 repression, invested and made a profit before he sold his company in 2015

Ryan Zinke: Secretary of the Inferior
Ryan Zinke was a college football player from the University of Oregon and Montana US congressional representative.

Andrew Puzder: Secretary of Labor
Andrew Puzder is the chief executive of CKE Restaurants, the head company of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.

Tom Price: Secretary of Health and Human Services
Georgia Congress representative Tom Price currently serves as the head of the House Budget Committee.

Rick Perry: Secretary of Energy
Rick Perry is the longest-serving governor in Texas history, being elected for the 2002, 2006, and 2010 terms, as well as serving as the Lieutenant Governor in 1998 before assuming the role when President Bush took the Oval Office.

David Shulkin: Secretary of Veteran Affairs
In July of 2015, under Barack Obama’s nomination, David Shulkin took the role of Secretary of Health in the Veteran Affairs committee. Under the Trump administration, Shulkin has been nominated as the Secretary of Veteran Affairs

Betsy DeVos: Secretary of Education
The only white woman on Trump’s proposed cabinets, Betsy DeVos is a prominent member of the Republican Party. She is most known for her as advocacy for school choice and the voucher program.

Sonny Perdue: Secretary of Agriculture
Perdue was a former governor of Georgia until 2011 when he moved up to the capital to take part in the Governors’ Council of the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Wilbur Ross: Secretary of Commerce
Best known for restructuring failed companies in industries such as steel, coal, telecommunications, foreign investment and textiles, Wilbur Ross is also an investor. Ross is also one of the world’s billionaires according to Forbes.
