What a season it has been for our very own Air Academy cheer team! Bonds have been formed and hard work has been put in. All of the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed were all worth it; the state competition is just around the corner and the girls are ready to fight for that state title. Now… let’s backup.

Silver squad (competition team) has been working hard on all of their skills for months now. The girls report that there was one day in particular where they learned so many new skills and it was so exciting to think about all that they could accomplish together. As the season progressed, they continued trying to incorporate more difficult, higher level stunts with the fast-approaching state competition in mind. With a week left until state, everyone is pushing themselves to the max. It is crunch time for the Air Academy cheer team, and they are diving right in. Ryn Wayman, a junior on the cheer team at Air Academy, emphasizes, “I am so proud of how far we have come this season, and I can’t wait to show everyone when we bring it at state!”

Competition season has already begun, and without hesitation, the team continuously executes the routine flawlessly and beautifully. At their first competition, they received a final score of 79.5 (which is really good!) with only 2 deductions. At their second competition, which took place at Air Academy, they placed second, just behind the overall winners from last year’s state competition, Palmer Ridge.

Despite all the hard work and potential for conflict, the team has been able to rise above any setbacks that could negatively affect them in any way. Hartley Conforti, a sophomore at Air Academy, raves, “I love our coaches, Jess and Caitlin! They both really stepped up when our other phenomenal coach, coach Sierra, had to step down due to the sudden loss of a loved one. They push us hard because they know we have so much potential to be great. I think we are going to perform very well at state.”

Win or lose, the girls will walk away from state happily, as a team, with the pleasure of knowing that they put everything out on that mat.  “Whether we make it to the finals or not, these girls will always be my team, my family, and my best friends. I’m so blessed to be a part of this team and to have had so much fun all throughout the season.” – Hartley Conforti
